Mutli-Culti Literati

Multi-culti literati is just the term for Asian art, literature and performances showcased in Germany. There's nothing else to say about the definition, at least that's what Xi gives us. In most cases, multi-culturalism is where there are multiple cultures of multiple ethnic groups in one area. Political Correct (or PC) is the idea of not using words that exclude, marginalise or insult minority groups. In terms of Xi's piece, the way of using PC is that PC is a replacement of multi-culti, it's a form of not addressing the differences between us all and just writing certain aspects in the way that we wish society would be.

Which is understandable, I think in terms of PC culture and Multi-Cultural culture is that many people from other groups don't want to address the history of certain aspects. Many White-Australians wish to cover up the Stolen Generation because "that wasn't us now", which is obviously true, I didn't steal any Aboriginal Australians from their parents, it's still something that my race did. I mean my parents were alive (though my mum was born in 1970 so she had to be between 0 - 10 when they stole mixed-race children) when the stolen generation was still happening.

I feel like, Xi is critiquing that aspect of those cultures and, as I said, people who write outside of their group (race, sexuality, gender) will often write these characters (as I talk of fiction) and be ... scared to address the difference if they do come up, of course. By addressing the differences between these characters, we can see them as they are. Not so much as they're a stereotype.

Reading and writing across cultures is important. If we only read and write about our culture, it'll be boring that you've only got this one mindset and this one view. Though, I think I've said it's boring like a million time over so that's me shutting up about the boring-ness. By distorting your beliefs, go out of your comfort zone. Especially as a writer, you shouldn't stick to reading in one area. It's much like as a writer, if you want to write one genre you should read that genre but also read relating genres. And thus, even if you read own-voices pieces, you should also read outside of that.

If you don't read and 'distort' your view, then your understanding of other cultures won't be as vast and cultured. We acknowledge the difference between cultures and it'll make people uncomfortable, especially towards marginalised groups. If I just view every person and their race as 'white' it doesn't create differences and will feel familiar between us. The universal of people, while everyone is everyone and everyone are people, if we look at the differences and acknowledge it then we will be better writers and better people because of it.
